Leave Valencia behind and journey along the picturesque coastline toward Tarragona, where golden beaches meet the remnants of an ancient Roman capital.
Your first stop is just outside Tarragona at the Roman Aqueduct, also called “El Pont del Diable” or “The Devil’s Bridge.” This remarkable structure, built in the 1st century BC, was once part of the city’s water system and remains nearly intact. Spanning over 200 meters in length and reaching 30 meters in height, it’s a hidden treasure worth marveling at.
Next, head into Tarragona’s historic old town. Wander through the Roman Forum and explore the Roman Circus, concealed within the city’s layout. Walk along the underground passageways once supporting the Circus stands, and arrive at Placa de la Font, a bustling square nestled within the ancient structure. Stand still and imagine the roar of Roman chariots racing by centuries ago.
End the day at the Roman Amphitheatre, perched by the sea. View this majestic structure from outside, picturing gladiators locked in fierce combat. The amphitheater’s dramatic backdrop of the Mediterranean makes it a memorable and reflective spot. Spend the night in the Tarragona area.
