Day 1: Journey to Mongolia
Catch your flight to Ulaanbaatar, the vibrant capital city of Mongolia.
Day 2: Exploring Ulaanbaatar
Upon arrival, a local guide will greet you and take you to your hotel to unwind. After a delicious lunch at an Indian restaurant, embark on a city tour. Visit the National Museum of Mongolia to discover the country’s history, explore the Gandan Monastery, the largest in Ulaanbaatar, and marvel at the impressive Chinggis Khaan Square, where you’ll see a grand statue of the legendary leader.
Day 3: Journey to Baga Gazriin Chuluu
Start your day early with a drive to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a unique rock formation known as the “lesser rocks.” Explore the ancient temple ruins nearby and immerse yourself in the surrounding landscape. Spend the night at a traditional Ger camp.
The Ger, a timeless symbol of Mongolian nomadic culture, is a portable dwelling designed for life in the rugged steppes. It remains warm in winter and cool in summer, offering protection against strong winds, while being easily assembled and relocated—a perfect home for those constantly on the move.
Day 4: Khukh Burd Temple & Tsagaan Suvarga
After breakfast, visit the historic ruins of the Sum Khukh Burd Temple, an important site rich in culture. Then, continue your journey to Tsagaan Suvarga, a stunning white limestone cliff that takes the shape of a stupa. Its unique formation might even remind you of the ancient ruins of Petra. End the day with an overnight stay at a Ger camp.
Day 5: Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park & Yol Valley
Travel further south to the breathtaking Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, home to the Three Beauties of Gobi Mountain range. Spend the day exploring Yol Valley, where you can hike through dramatic canyons and capture stunning photographs of the rugged beauty. Relax and overnight at a Ger camp.
Day 6: Exploring Khongor Sand Dunes
In the morning, drive to the Khongor Sand Dunes, located in the southern part of Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, also known as the “Singing Sands.” These massive dunes stretch 6 to 12 km wide and 100 km long, with peaks rising up to 80 meters, resembling those found in Egypt’s deserts. In the afternoon, take a walk to the base of the dunes and experience the awe-inspiring landscape. The sunset over the sand is breathtaking, and the starlit sky at night is incredibly vivid. Spend the night in a Ger camp.
Day 7: Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs)
After breakfast, embark on a drive across the vast, flat landscape to Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs. This famous site, first excavated in 1922 by paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews, is known for its rich history of dinosaur bones and eggs, some of which have been displayed around the world. Enjoy lunch at the camp before exploring the area. The Flaming Cliffs, named by the original expedition, are especially captivating at sunset when the cliffs appear to glow like flames. Spend the night at a Ger camp.
Day 8: Ongi Monastery
After breakfast, head north to visit the ruins of the Ongi Monastery, once one of Mongolia’s three major monastic centers. Explore the ancient grounds of the monastery and observe the ongoing restoration efforts. Spend the night in a Ger camp, surrounded by the peaceful landscape.
Day 9: Kharkhorin & Erdene Zuu Monastery
After an early breakfast, drive to Kharkhorin, the former capital of the 13th-century Mongol Empire. Explore the Karakorum Museum, which showcases artifacts dating back to the Turkish period (7th century). Then, visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, the first and largest monastery in Mongolia, built on the site of the ancient capital. Take a tour of the monastery and explore its temples, which feature remarkable 17th-century Buddhist Thangka paintings and statues. Spend the night in a Ger camp.
