Day 1: London to Matlock, Heights of Abraham, Bakewell & Buxton (380kms)

Begin your day by meeting your tour guide and setting off on your journey to the Peak District. Your first stop is Matlock, where you have the option to take a cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham (optional, ticket not included). Enjoy panoramic views and explore the fascinating caves. Next, head to Bakewell, where you can taste the famous Bakewell Pudding as you wander through this charming town. Continue your journey to Buxton, the gateway to the Peak District. Here, you’ll have free time to explore the ancient Roman spas and the Opera House. Enjoy some leisure time in the town before heading to your hotel for the night.

Today, start your day with a heritage steam train ride from Haverthwaite Railway to Lakeside, followed by a scenic boat ride on Lake Windermere. Afterward, drive to Ambleside and visit the iconic Bridge House, the smallest house in Cumbria. Continue your journey to Grasmere, where you’ll enjoy a drive along the beautiful shores of Lake Grasmere. Pass by Nab Cottage, once home to famous poet Thomas de Quincey, a close friend of William Wordsworth. Next, visit Dove Cottage, where Wordsworth once lived. Explore the picturesque village of Grasmere, renowned for its delicious Grasmere Gingerbread and connections to the poet. The day concludes with a visit to Derwentwater and some free time to explore the scenic Keswick area.

Today, head towards Chester to explore the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain. Afterward, enjoy some free time to walk around and discover the charming Chester Rows, unique half-timbered galleries. Stroll along the Chester Walls, the only city in Britain with a complete set of ancient defensive walls. Take some more time to explore the town at your leisure.
