Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is Pelling better than Gangtok for mountain views?
While Gangtok offers beautiful vistas, Pelling is significantly closer to the Kanchenjunga range. From almost any point in Pelling, the mountains appear massive and towering, providing a much more intimate “alpine” experience compared to the city feel of Gangtok.
2. What makes the Khecheopalri Lake special?
Known as the “Wishing Lake,” it is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus. A fascinating local legend claims that birds do not allow a single leaf to float on the lake’s surface, picking them up as soon as they fall to keep the water crystal clear.
3. Is the Pelling Skywalk safe for those with a fear of heights?
The Skywalk features a transparent glass floor overlooking a deep gorge. While it is structurally very safe and built to international standards, it can be exhilarating. There are non-glass sections for those who prefer to avoid the transparent view while still seeing the Chenrezig statue.
4. How is the road condition between Gangtok and Pelling?
The 120km journey takes about 5 hours. While the scenery is stunning, some stretches can be bumpy due to the hilly terrain. We use high-clearance SUVs (like Innova or Xylo) to ensure maximum comfort during this mountain transit.
