Journey through time with our comprehensive 5-day Ajanta and Ellora tour package. Experience the pinnacle of ancient rock-cut architecture as you explore 30 Buddhist caves at Ajanta and the world’s largest monolithic structure, the Kailasa Temple at Ellora. This extended itinerary offers a deep dive into India’s spiritual history, featuring visits to sacred Jyotirlingas, formidable hilltop forts, and the “Mini Taj Mahal,” ensuring an unforgettable cultural odyssey.
Day 1: Arrival & The City of Gates
Arrive at Aurangabad Airport/Railway Station. Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. After a short rest, start your journey with a visit to Bibi Ka Maqbara, the 17th-century tribute often called the “Taj of the Deccan.” Spend the evening at Panchakki, an ancient water mill, and enjoy the local markets.
Overnight stay in Aurangabad.
Day 2: The Artistry of Ajanta
Dedicate your full day to the Ajanta Caves (approx. 100km drive). These caves house the world’s most famous Buddhist frescoes and sculptures, dating back over 2,000 years. Explore the horseshoe-shaped gorge and visit the iconic “View Point” where the caves were first rediscovered.
Overnight stay in Aurangabad.
Day 3: Ellora’s Monolithic Marvels
Head to the Ellora Caves, a UNESCO site featuring Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples carved side-by-side. Stand in awe of the Kailasa Temple, carved from a single rock. Later, visit the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 sacred Shiva shrines in India.
Overnight stay in Aurangabad.
Day 4: Fortresses & Heritage
Explore the massive Daulatabad Fort, once an impregnable citadel with a fascinating “dark passage” defense. In the afternoon, visit the Aurangabad Caves or choose an optional excursion to the Paithan Garden. Spend your final evening shopping for authentic Paithani Silks and Himroo fabrics.
Overnight stay in Aurangabad.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is 5 days enough to see both cave complexes?
Yes, 5 days is the perfect duration. It allows you to spend a full, unhurried day at Ajanta (which is quite far) and another full day at Ellora, while still having time for Aurangabad’s city heritage sites.
2. Are the caves accessible for someone with walking difficulties?
While the caves require walking, palanquins (dolis) and chairs are available for hire at both Ajanta and Ellora for seniors or those with mobility issues.
3. What is the "Himroo" fabric I should look for?
Himroo is a local Aurangabad specialty made of silk and cotton. It was originally used to make robes for the nobility and features intricate Persian-influenced designs. It makes for an excellent, authentic souvenir.
4. Can I visit Shirdi within this 5-day plan?
Yes! Because this is a 5-day tour, we can easily swap Day 4 to include a visit to the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple (approx. 3 hours away), making it a spiritual-cum-heritage journey.
