Day 1: Arrival in Paro & The Golden Buddha of Thimphu

Your journey begins with a spectacular flight offering fascinating Himalayan views before descending into Paro. After arrival and immigration, drive to Thimphu, the capital. Visit Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang) to see the country’s largest statue and enjoy panoramic views of the valley. Later, explore the Textile Museum and the Craft Bazaar to witness the national art of weaving and alluring hand-woven products.

  • Overnight stay in Thimphu.

After breakfast, visit the Simply Bhutan Museum, which portrays age-old lifestyles and ancient architecture. Stroll through Chang Yul Park, a seven-acre green space featuring a large rose garden and sustainable nature-based pavements. Explore the Folk Heritage Museum, set inside a three-storied traditional house, to see farming tools, household objects, and rural culture. End the day with a walk around the newly constructed Kaja Throm.

  • Overnight stay in Thimphu.

Drive back to Paro, descending from the heights of the region. Visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower that now serves as the National Museum. Continue to Rinpung Dzong (the “fortress of the heap of jewels”), famous for its inner courtyard galleries lined with fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore and the “four friends”.

  • Overnight stay in Paro.

Embark on a breathtaking 5-hour hike to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched on a cliff 900m above the valley floor. It is said Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress to meditate. Later, visit the 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the 108 temples built by King Songtsen Gampo, marking the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan.
