Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does Kalimpong differ from Gangtok and Darjeeling?
The lake offers two distinct personalities: in winter (Jan–Mar), it is a solid, frozen white sheet of ice where you can enjoy yak rides on the snow; in spring (Apr–June), it transforms into a brilliant turquoise blue surrounded by blooming rhododendrons.
2. Is the Tiger Hill sunrise guaranteed?
The spectacular view of Mt. Kanchenjunga at sunrise is highly dependent on weather and cloud cover. October to December offers the highest visibility, while during monsoon months, the view is often hidden by mist.
3. What specific documents are needed for the Tsomgo Lake permit?
For Indian Nationals, you must carry 2 passport-size photographs and a valid ID proof (Voter ID, Passport, or Driving License). Please note: Aadhar Cards and PAN Cards are often not accepted for these specific high-altitude permits.
4. Can I experience the Toy Train on this itinerary?
Yes! On Day 5 in Darjeeling, you can opt for a “Joy Ride” on the UNESCO World Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. We recommend booking tickets in advance as they sell out quickly during peak seasons.
